The Poppy Project: Remembrance is the Mission
The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force invites teachers and students to honor Veterans with the Poppy Project! The Poppy is the symbol of remembrance and was inspired by the 1915 poem In Flanders Field. This engaging lesson plan, designed for 5th-8th grade, utilizes the poem combining history, ELA, and visual arts standards for a meaningful, interdisciplinary experience. Using primary sources and creative activities, students will explore the powerful symbol of remembrance, making this an ideal project for Veterans Day or Memorial Day. Coming to you every Thursday at 2 pm ET, Target for Today broadcasts via Facebook live and through the Museum’s Vimeo Channel on topics of important dates, names, themes, collection items, and more from the Eighth Air Force experience and World War II.
